Dani Pearce

Dani Pearce (Australian, b. 1992) is a Writer, Film Director and Video Artist based in Sydney.

Dani’s work holds a primary focus on experimental narrative; subverting and reimagining cinematic form and image. Her work spans narrative film, video art work and photography.

Her work is ambitious and inventive; ideologically ruminating most distinctly on womanhood, body politics, systems of power and invisible disability.

Dani’s work has been described by IndieWire as being defined by “her stunning, signature style.”

Dani’s filmography includes NURSED BACK, BACKPEDAL and PLACES I GO. Further work includes photographic installation STRAINS

This work has been recognised by Sundance Film Festival, Museum of Contemporary Art Australia, Cannes Lions, Cannes Young Director’s Awards, the Saatchi&Saatchi New Director’s Showcase, the London 1.4 ‘On the Cusp of Greatness’ List for 2018, 2019, 2020 & 2021, AVIFF Cannes Film Festival, the IMDb Independent Short Awards, Raindance Film Festival, BAFTA Aesthetica, Tribeca Video Art & Experimental Film Festival, Brisbane International Film Festival, Montreal Festival du Nouveau Cinema, Manchester Film Festival, Vimeo Staff Picks and many more.

Dani is the recipient of Shots New Director of the Year 2021, LIA Best New Director 2019 and winner of Gold at Ciclope 2019 for New Talent in Direction. Further, in 2020 Dani was the only Australian director invited to the Sundance Film Festival Short Film Competition.

Dani recently completed the screenplay for her debut feature BABY and is currently writing her second feature, DESIRE PATH. Further, she is developing a new video art work and preparing to exhibit her first solo of PLACES I GO

She is also writing a collection of essays titled BODY OF WORK and a book of poetry titled LESSER SEX - both set to be complete in 2023.

Dani also directs commercials and is represented by Revolver in Sydney and Henry in Paris respectively.
